What Will Narendra Modi’s 3rd Term Look Like?

As the 2024 elections approach, speculation is rife about Prime Minister Modi’s 3rd term and what he has in store if granted a historic third term. Modi’s winning is almost assured, considering the lackluster opposition.

While nothing is guaranteed, we can make a few educated guesses based on his track record as the two-time PM of India and also taking his third run as the MP of Gujrat into account.

6 Predictions for Modi’s 3rd Term

1. Increased Focus on Rural Development and Infrastructure:

Rural development will remain a key priority for Modi’s 3rd term. Initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana have connected over 1.5 lakh villages through all-weather roads. The PM is expected to introduce innovative new programs focused on access to healthcare, education, renewable energy, and livelihood opportunities in rural India.

The Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide tap water connections to over 8.5 crore rural households by 2024. Modi is also likely to fast-track infrastructure projects like the Bharatmala Pariyojana, which aims to build 83,000 km of highways.

Besides, successful case studies like the 24×7 power supply in villages of Gujarat and Har Ghar Jal in Goa will be replicated across India.

2. Continued Economic Reforms and Manufacturing Focus:

India witnessed its fastest growth under Modi, becoming the world’s fifth-largest economy. His third term will double down on economic reforms.

The Production Linked Incentive scheme has generated massive investments in electronics, auto, pharma, and other sectors. Modi aims to make India a global manufacturing hub and meet the ambitious target of making India a $5 trillion economy by 2026. His focus on ease of doing business, privatization, labor reforms, and boosting consumption will attract further investments.

India is well poised for a decade of strong growth, with leading economists predicting 7-9% annual GDP expansion.

3. Addressing Social Issues: Healthcare and Education:

The government plans to implement the National Education Policy across India to transform learning outcomes. Schemes like Ekal Vidyalaya are expanding education access in remote areas.

His third term may introduce reforms to make education more affordable, skill-based, and employable.

On healthcare, the Ayushman Bharat program has benefitted over 2 crore families with ₹5 lakh insurance cover. Modi aims to increase healthcare spending to 3% of GDP and build a hospital in every district. Innovative models like Health & Wellness Centers are also improving primary care in rural India.

4. Strengthening India’s Global Position:

Under Modi, India has taken bold steps on the world stage like the surgical strikes against Pakistan and the Balakot airstrikes. His third term may see India playing an even bigger role as a net security provider in the Indo-Pacific.

Stronger strategic ties with Quad partners and new partnerships under the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative will be crucial. Modi has prioritized relations with key countries like the US, Russia, Japan, Israel, and African nations. India’s growing international stature is evidenced by its recent election as a non-permanent UNSC member. Modi will continue leveraging India’s soft power through cultural diplomacy.

5. Promoting Cultural Diversity and Heritage:

Modi is a staunch advocate for celebrating India’s vibrant cultural diversity. Initiatives like Swadesh Darshan and PRASAD are boosting tourism circuits around India’s heritage sites. Projects under the National Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana are preserving urban heritage.

Digital archives through the Shodhganga project are making rare manuscripts accessible online. Modi is likely to announce new programs supporting the arts, crafts, performing arts, festivals, and languages of different Indian regions.

Cultural events like the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam are fostering people-to-people ties.

6. Strengthening India’s Security:

National security remains a top priority for the Modi government. India’s defense budget has seen a consistent hike under his leadership. Major military modernization programs are underway to enhance India’s maritime, cyber, and space capabilities.

The creation of the post of Chief of Defense Staff and reforms to increase private sector participation in defense will strengthen India’s security preparedness. Modi has taken a tough stance against cross-border terrorism and is likely to continue giving a free hand to the armed forces.

Modi’s 3rd term promises to build on the transformative work of the past eight years. His visionary leadership will see India transition into a global economic powerhouse with a manufacturing-led growth story.
